| BEFORE TIME The Music Files Vol. 3, Before Time is a journey into sound and atmosphere. In music it explores new frontiers and boundaries and goes beyond them. Before Time unravels soundscapes never heard of before. In each movement a new emotion is discovered, a new perspective is mapped. It sets out on an expedition in search of the direct impetus sound and music can have on the way we experience reality. THE TELEVISION PROGRAM The first independent production by BIGPRODUCTIONS was a television series entitled ‘Nederland in de Prehistorie’. The title of the series is probably best translated as ‘Prehistorical Netherlands’. In 12 thematically divided episodes the picture is drawn of how our world, the low lands by the sea, looked like before the Romans entered and took over. The series is hosted by Dr. Leo Verhart, who also researched and co-wrote it. ‘Nederland in de Prehistorie’ has been produced in 1999, and broadcasted in 2000 - 2002 by Teleac/NOT. Next to this television series, the project contains a book and a CD. VHS tapes of the show are available at Teleac/NOT in Hilversum, as is the book. This can also be bought at the local bookstore and the CD can be ordered through www.bigfono.nl. THE MUSIC The music was conceived and composed as the soundtrack to a series of television programs on Dutch prehistory. It has been compiled in a very intense process between director and composer, unusual for a regular television program. The music is not composed in a ‘song’-like format but rather molded as a soundscape adapted to the program and enhancing the mood, the feel and the emotion. Listening to it takes you away to the beyond. This is ambient music with an unprecedented imaginative power. It really gets 2U! …. For optimal effect it should be played gently. Ties van der Linden is a composer and musician. He has made music for a number of television series, advertisements and leaders, the STER leaders for public announcement in The Netherlands, theater productions and a variety of commercial work. Kas van der Linden is a director and producer. Together with his company BIGPRODUCTIONS he has already made many audio visual productions for international television, institutions and the industry.
